Biography
Christine Zhou is a Chinese-Canadian and British filmmaker and composer based in the UK, working across documentary, art film and music for screen. Before moving into independent filmmaking, she spent five years as a director, editor and reporter at International Channel Shanghai.
Trained as a concert pianist before moving into composition and film, Christine holds a Master’s in Music Composition for Film and Television from the University of Bristol and a Filmmaking Certificate from the National Film and Television School, alongside undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas in Advanced Music Performance from Concordia University in Montreal.
Her work brings together storytelling, image and music, with an interest in personal history, cultural identity and the relationship between past and present. Her recent work includes composing for Beyond the Conflict, a documentary shortlisted for the 2025 Student Academy Awards, and taking part in Opera North’s Resonance artist residency. In 2026, she was selected for Documentary Campus Masterschool, where she is developing her first feature documentary, A Golden Voice.
